WARNING! EXTREME CUTENESS ALERT! If you watch the video titled “Adorable Little Girl Sings Itsy Bitsy Spider To Huge Tarantula”, you must do so at your own risk. It is ridiculously adorable, and you will never be able to forget seeing it. It happened in our booth at the Southwestern Ontario Pet Expo on Saturday March, 12th, and it was not staged or pre planned in any way, shape or form. I was lucky enough to be her handler while her and her family attended SWOPE, and it was a moment that I will cherish for as long as I live. Elsa is a Honduran Curly Hair tarantula, and she is one of my absolute favourites out of all of the animals at CSE; and that’s out of a few hundred animals! The sight of that little girl having such a warm and intimate moment with her, let alone the fact that it was being shared with an animal that most people would run away from, was incredibly moving to say the least. She sang it the whole way through once, and then started again but didn’t finish the second time. All in all it’s a great example of how fear is a learned response, not an instinct. Man, I wish that I would have thought to ask for her name…
